It only takes a quick scroll through any fashion blogger’s feed to confirm that the baker boy cap is having a significant style moment. Also known as newsboy or fisherman hats, the style most recently rose to popularity again in the ’90s, but is experiencing another resurgence among fashion bloggers, models, and other celebrities.
Everyone from Bella Hadid to Kaia Gerber, Zendaya, Jourdan Dunn, and Elsa Hosk have been embracing the trend, styling with summery dresses and denim in the warmer months, and using baker boy caps to replace wool hats in winter.
Tess Corvaia is the co-founder of cool-girl Australian had brand, Lack of Color, and told Sporteluxe why she thinks the baker boy cap is back: “The return of the 90s is in full swing. I think the baker boy cap is a really relaxed style that screams 90s cool. It’s little and laid-back and is an easy hat to work into your staple wardrobe.”
She says the appeal lies in the accessory’s versatility: “It can take you from the beach to the bar. I think it looks great paired with a little white summer dress and sandals or a super relaxed t-shirt and jeans combo. Or all rugged up with a nice big coat or turtle neck, for those of you not sweating it out in Australia right now.” Or, of course, style it with your leggings, sneakers, and sports bra to go straight from yoga to running errands.
